Alpha Timbo Declares For SLPP Crown
By Mohamed Bundu-Kamara
During a meeting held at the SLPP party office in Port Loko on the 1st May this year, the former Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations, Mr. Alpha O. Timbo declared openly his ambition to vie for the flagbearership of the main opposition SLPP ahead of the 2012 elections.
In his address to the rank and file of party supporters present, Mr. Alpha Timbo maintained that the Regional Executive Members should know that the path towards the 2012 elections is not an easy task and as leaders of the party in the regions, they have a sacred responsibility to ensure that we sail through the hurdles.
One way to do that is by telling ourselves the truth, work hard together as one family and courageously determine the right choice and implement them.
Mr. Timbo also opined that we must always try to leave behind us a good legacy for our children yet unborn that will emulate them. He further not that May 1st is International Workers Day and it’s a significant day in the world that is celebrated worldwide as it’s a day of reflection and a day where workers of the world develop new hopes for their future.
Mr. Timbo went on to say that as a former trade union leader, he selected this date to inform his people in the Northern Region about his intention of contesting for the flagbearership of the SLPP towards the 2012 election, as he is there to seek guidance, direction and support from these regional executive members.
Earlier, the Northern Region Chairman of the SLPP, Dr Alfred Bobson Sesay introduced Mr. Alpha Timbo to the party supporters whom he described as a pragmatic young man that is marketable for the party’s leadership come 2012 election.
A host of the Port Loko regional executive members and party supporters were all present at the gathering.
